This forum is supposed to be based on the original forums run by Redigit, and the IRC on the original forums was hosted by KottNet. As this forum's IRC channel used to be on KottNet, this therefore made it more faithful to the original forums. Using StarNet is telling me that this forum is starting to break away from the original.

Since StarNet has other Mario sites on it (Stardust Fields, Toad's Castle) it's a better place for S *M* BX.

The advantage of registering on IRC is that other people can't use your handle without your password. Therefore, it's impossible to impersonate you or whatever. Also, you need to be registered in order to get on IRC when spam attacks are going on to prevent the spammers from joining.

Pretty much this except for the spam part, we're using +i (invite only) now since they've started automating their spam bot net to register and join in bulk. It makes the ops lives easier though since if you're logged in, we can confirm your identity better and invite you in.
