Maybe the lack of custom graphics could be one of the reasons why it got forgotten, but then again, it was made in 2011.

Uh not right there are some more episode which aren't forgotten though.

Uhm not right aswell because back there the community already existed 2 years and had a lot of people.

What.

The kind of people i hate:

People judging by screenshots
People that only care about slopes and shit
People that only care about custom graphics

Back in the early years linear stuff was cool now if you do it you get shitted right away.

People judging by screenshots. - Depends on the way you're doing it. I mean, if you hate anyone judging by screenshots, then you're dismissing the actual purpose of screenshots. You post them to make people have a quick view and look whether it's promising or not, but there is nothing wrong about criticizing screenshots, especially when you don't have access to the respective level, for instance, in a project screenshot without a demo. But if you mean people that just look at the screenshot and say that it's shitty and unworthy a more detailed view, then I'm with you on that one.

People that only care about slopes. - There is no such person. But if you mean people that use "no slopes" as critique, then what's wrong with that? Slopes are one thing to make a level better. I mean, you aren't expecting something different, are you? It's just fair that a level whose designer spent effort into adding slopes gets more attention than a level without slopes that was made in less than an hour. Really, you can't say that a designer who puts more effort into his levels for more details is a bad guy because he does it. If I would have to review a level, and that person didn't use slopes, even though it would do well in his level, of course I will suggest this for improvements.

People that only care about custom graphics. - If ONLY about CGFX, then yes, but there is nothing wrong with pointing out and praise a person for putting special effort into his level if it turned out well.

This reminds me of the first level I posted back on Knux's forum. Someone GAVE IT A RATING after looking at the screenshots.

Ouch!That seems unfair.Like CaptainSyrup,I hate those people.They can be
frankly annoying. If the screenshots dont look good, they should still try the level.
They could have great events, enemy placement ect.

True. I was angry because when I made my first project, I had no custom graphics, and very little clash, yet I still got bad replies.

I got whined at on FallingSnow's forums when I was working on the prototype of the Potion Plight episode. None of the screens showed any custom graphics, so you're not alone here. However, you'll never know who shouted at me. It wasn't a regular member, it was...

JOEY.

Yep, it was him. He was criticising the project really negatively using terminology along the lines of "This looks awful." and "You need to work on your custom graphics before you even consider starting an episode." This is one thing I can remember him saying:

Joey wrote:
No custom graphics. Not only do all episodes need to have them, but only the best can pull off without them. No-one wants to sit through a Yoshi flying level with just a background. Put more scenery in. CGFX and CNPCs can help with this.

He just bashed at my episode. No, really. He basically said my episode was really bad just because I don't have custom graphics.

Good aesthetic and atmosphere can make me enjoy a level more. Beautiful structures and the little details show that maker has spent a lot of time to make them look good, and fit in the experience. The chosen style and tileset will greatly affect the basic level layout and design. I've seen some very nice themes done with both default and custom graphics. Those alone don't make for much of a level though.

I have not gotten enough reason to hate anyone yet, except for spambots but those don't really count as people.

I fully support the opinion about "No matter if it looks bad, it still can be a lot of fun". I know a person, who always says something like "man, that looks awful. I hate that" (no matter if a PC-game, an old game from the late 90's, or even from the early 90's), and i admit, that i don't like him for that (but also many other bad sides of his character).
When i, for example play FFIV (the SNES Version), then i know it dosn't have too good GFX, but still it is so much fun with all that content and stuff.
Another example is, that i still like to play RPGs from the 90's (mostly SNES and Playstation), as they are my favorites content and gameplay-wise. Who knows Alundra on the Playstation for example.
There already were lots of other Games like Final Fantasy (which could crush Alundra in terms of GFX with all that render and 3D-stuff), but i did like both games exactly equal.
And for the SNES-area, there is Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Terranigma, Illusion of Gaia, Soul Blazer and more, that i still really like to play. To todays standards they are looking "classic", but i still like them, even when i never played them in my childhood. And to be honest, i somewhat hate Final Fantasy from the eleventh installment upwards, as it always just tries so hard to be cool, but it really isn't, as it...just sucks ^^.
I also would prefer the good old "Command and Conquer Red Alert" over "Command and Conquer Generals" all the time, as it just is so well done for an Game from it's time.
This for me dosn't means, that a good looking game is automatically bad, but how is it said again..."don't judge a book by it's cover", even when it is already dusty.
This also goes for SMBX, as i really like "Mario vs. the Moon Base" for example, which has custom-GFX, but could certainly live aswell without custom-GFX. I didn't play really much SMBX-episodes, but i never would say, that custom-GFX are doing help an episode, other than change it's atmosphere.
Why i am using so many custom-GFX? Because i just like to make them, and because i like to see, how many ideas i can bring up. It's somekind of challenge maybe, but it never does make it a better level or episode gameplay-wise, to use them. Because of that, i only build levels, when i have a nice or even cool idea for that level, in my opinion. One can say, i like classic vanilla-levels quite as much, as i like custom-GFX ones. In a nutshell it is like this for me: The level (gameplay)is the body, and the GFX is the clothing of that body, not more. And as we all know, not every fancy clothing fits to every person, no matter how expansive it is.

I know Alundra. It had some really clever puzzles and beautiful pixelart. I have seen a let's play of it, but never had an opportunity to play it myself. Some areas in that game were very memorable. One way to make something memorable is to do something different.
